The Rotary Club de Guimarães was founded in 1948, at the city of Guimarães, Portugal. The city of Guimarães, in the North of the country, was the first capital of Portugal in the XII century. Today the beauty of its historical centre justified its classification as a world heritage by the UNESCO.

32 professionals were the first Rotarians of the Club. One of those founders is still alive. At the moment the Club consists of 42 Rotarians and 2 Honorary Fellows.

The Club has twinning agreements with other Portuguese clubs, namely at Covilhã, Lagos and Porto Santo – Madeira. Rotarians from all these clubs visit regularly each other in a reciprocity scheme.

The commitment of our fellow Rotarians was already recognised through the award of the Henry Rosanoff Prize in 1997 for outstanding assiduity to the Club meetings (100%).
