During his long existence of nearly 60 years, the Club was engaged in a number of social initiatives aimed at the town of Guimarães, namely the building of a house for an institution supporting poor people, the offer of an ambulance, specialist vehicles and a mobile phone system to the local fire brigade, and the construction of a playground for the Guimaraes City Council. The involvement in our town activities justified the award of the Town Gold Medal to the Club.

The RCGuimaraes is involved in the support to the schools of Angola and East Timor. The students of all education stages, from the primary school to the university are awarded every year with performance prizes and scholarships.

The disabled and unhealthy people attracted the efforts of our fellow Rotarians, who offered the first SCAN equipment to the General Hospital of Porto and organized a Wheelchair Bank that has about 200 wheelchairs and other equipment for lending to people in care. We also support several institutions providing specialist help to the elderly, the cancer sufferers, among others. Of course we have been always actively involved in the worldwide Polio Plus campaign.

Our involvement in the activities of the District 1970 is intense. One of the District Governors was a fellow Rotarian of ours. We organize regularly District conferences and general meetings as well as Portugal / Spain assemblies.
